GRACE AND DAN were the last couple to leave the boat. Dan, dressed in his yellow Hawaiian shirt and designer shades, held her hand, smiling the crazy smile and nodding at the crew as they headed for the gangway.

The crewman all in white stood on the dock, offered Grace his hand and held on to her until she was safely on the dock. Not needing or wanting help, Dan stepped down on his own and stayed close to her.

Grace glanced up at the small group gathered at the end of the dock and her eyes focused on Zimmerman. They made eye contact and her heart gave a thump and picked up speed.

Oh, thank God, Zimmerman is here.

Without wavering or speaking, she headed straight for the marshal. She was within ten feet of safety when Dan grabbed her arm and turned her towards the patio.

“Let’s get a drink before we go to our room.”

Grace jerked away from Dan and ran towards Zimmerman.

“Take him,” said Zimmerman, as he pushed Grace behind him. Rubico charged towards Dan.

Dan alerted to what was happening and sprinted in the opposite direction. He ran past the patio bar and headed through the shrubbery around the side of the hotel.
